Lin-Manuel Miranda Speaks Out After Church's Unauthorized Version of 'Hamilton' Goes Viral Online

Lin-Manuel Miranda is speaking out after it was discovered that a church in Texas was performing an unauthorized version of his musical Hamilton, which used revised lyrics and text.

Deadline reports that one line in the “Christianized” version of the musical was, “Stop running from God, Alexander…His word says if we confess our sins, he is faithful and [wants] just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us.”

The unauthorized production was performed at the Door McAllen Church last week and it was also live streamed online.

“Grateful to all of you who reached out about this illegal, unauthorized production. Now lawyers do their work. And always grateful to the @dramatistsguild, who have the backs of writers everywhere, be it your first play or your fiftieth. For more info on your rights as a writer, dramatistsguild.com,” Lin tweeted.
