Dionne Warwick & Gladys Knight React to Being Mistaken for Each Other at U.S. Open 2022

There was another mix-up at the 2022 U.S. Open!

Earlier this week, social media went wild when they thought they spotted Beyonce in the stands at a tennis match, but it ended up being this Emmy-nominated actress instead.

On Wednesday night (August 31) it happened again, with a commentator seemingly mixing up the identities of Gladys Knight and Dionne Warwick.

During Serena Williams‘ latest match, ESPN broadcasters Mary Carillo and Chanda Rubin started naming the celebs as the camera spotted them in the stands.

“Gladys Knight!” Mary said as the camera showed Dionne, to which Chanda agreed. However, it turned out Chanda was referring to who she was saw in the stands and not on the monitor.

“Too bad I was initially looking at the court (where Auntie Gladys was in the stands) and not our program monitor that showed Ms. Dionne…mistake was immediately corrected,” Chanda tweeted after the match along with the face-palm emoji.

Dionne and Gladys then both took to Twitter to laugh off the mistake.

“Hi, I’m Gladys Knight… and instead of taking that midnight train to Georgia, I won’t walk on by but will say a little prayer for you,” Dionne tweeted, while jokingly adding the lyrics to Gladys‘ song “Midnight Train to Georgia.”

Gladys then tweeted, “Dionne and I have been sisters for a long time and I hope she is as honored to be mistaken for me as I would be her. I’m sure it was an honest mistake. It was a blessing to be in the house to see Serena’s greatness.”
