Serena Williams Loses to Australia's Ajla Tomlijanovic at U.S. Open After 3 Hour Match
Serena Williams has seemingly ended her professional tennis career.
After a three hour match, the 41-year-old athlete lost to Australia’s Ajla Tomlijanovic at 2022 U.S. Open on Friday night (September 2) in Queens, New York.
Ajla bested Serena in the Women’s Singles Third Round match 7-5, 6-7, 6-1.
In a tearful post-match interview, Serena shared her gratitude to those in her life.
“Thank you so much. I tried,” she said before thanking father, “to everyone who has been on my side so many years..it all started with my parents. And it all started with them, and I’m really grateful to them. These are happy tears.”
Serena also gave a shout out to her sister, Venus, her doubles partner: “She’s the only reason Serena Williams existed.”
