'Squid Game' Star Lee Jung-jae Makes History with Lead Actor Win at Emmys 2022

Lee Jung-jae is making history!

The 49-year-old actor took home the award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series for his role in Squid Game at the 2022 Emmy Awards on Monday (September 12) at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles.

Lee‘s win makes history as the first time an actor in a non-English series has won in this category.

“Thank you to the television academy, thank you to Netflix, thank you to director Hwang [Dong-hyuk] for realistic problem we all face come to life to creatively on the screen with a great script and amazing visuals,” Lee said in his acceptance speech.

“Thank you,” Lee ended. “Thank you Squid Game team!”

Lee was nominated alongside Bob Odenkirk (Better Call Saul), Jason Bateman (Ozark), Jeremy Strong (Succession), Adam Scott (Severance), and Brian Cox (Succession).
