In the recovery room, the doctor explained he found an “extremely subtle polyp.”

“This was potentially life-saving for you — I’m not kidding, I’m not being overly dramatic,” the doctor said. “This is exactly why you do this. You had no symptoms.”

About the polyp, the doctor said, “You are interrupting the natural history of a disease of something of a process that could have ended up developing into cancer and causing all sorts of problems.”

The doctor then made clear that colonoscopies save lives.

Rob‘s colonoscopy was also filmed, and you can watch below. His doctor found three polyps.

The video was made in conjunction with colon-cancer-awareness organization Lead from Behind and the Colorectal Cancer Alliance.

Colon cancer can be diagnosed earlier in life as well, with a 28-year-old athlete coming forward and sharing his diagnosis a few years ago.
