'Riverdale' Actor Ryan Grantham Sentenced to Life Behind Bars for Killing His Own Mother

Ryan Grantham has been sentenced to life behind bars.

The 24-year-old actor, who previously appeared on shows like Riverdale and Supernatural, turned himself into police after shooting his mother in the back of the head back in March 2020.

Ryan was convicted of second-degree murder and it was clear that he was going to be getting a prison sentence, but the major question was how long he’d have to wait until he was eligible for parole.

The prosecution suggested that Ryan should wait 18 years to be eligible for parole while his legal team said that he should only need to wait 12 years.

British Columbia Supreme Court Justice Kathleen Ker decided that he will be behind bars without the possibility of parole for 14 years, according to Deadline.

Find out why Canadian Prime Minster Justin Trudeau was also involved in this case.

On March 31, 2020, Grantham allegedly killed his mother by shooting her in the head while she played the piano. According to the CBC, Grantham took videos and rehearsed the killing, and confessed on camera about what he did while showing his mother’s deceased body.

After killing his mother, Grantham allegedly packed his car with several guns and ammunition, 12 Molotov cocktails, camping supplies and a map with directions to Rideau Cottage, Trudeau’s residence.

He never made it to the Cottage and instead turned himself in to the police.

His sister found their mother’s body on April 1, 2020. Reports indicate he was “experiencing urges to commit violence and kill himself, along with escalating feelings of self-hatred and guilt over his mother, potentially learning he had stopped attending classes at Simon Fraser University.”

Grantham appeared in 2010′s Diary of a Wimpy Kid and 2009′s The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus. He also appeared in a 2019 episode of Riverdale, where he played Jeffery Augustine, who killed Archie Andrews’ father, and also had roles in The CW’s Supernatural and iZombie.
