Jimmy Kimmel Reflects On His Viral Stunt At The Emmys & How It Went Wrong

During an appearance on Howard‘s radio show, Jimmy explained how the stage layout interrupted what was an already planned joke.
“How I visualized this happening is he [Will Arnett] drags me out, we read the winner, and then I’m just basically just out of the shot, and it’s not really a factor,” Jimmy explained, according to The Hollywood Reporter. “But the stage was very different. The stage was like a catwalk. So, I was kind of in the way, in a way I didn’t imagine.”
He also replied to allegations that it was a racial attack on Quinta. “Some people read racial stuff into this, and everybody has their own perspective, but the fact of the matter is … this was a plan I had no matter who [won].”
Jimmy reflected on how the moment changed Quinta‘s win: “It did take away — especially afterward — because then she had to answer questions about that instead of just celebrating her Emmy.”
Jimmy already apologized to Quinta when she appeared on his show Jimmy Kimmel Live!
