Jonathan Groff Reveals the 'Funny Girl' Change He Encouraged Lea Michele to Make for Broadway Revival
When the Broadway revival of Funny Girl opened this year with Beanie Feldstein in the lead role, the act two song “The Music That Makes Me Dance” was mostly talk-sung.
Jonathan encouraged Lea to belt out the ending of the song just like Barbra Streisand did in the original production.
“I sent Lea a YouTube that I know of an audio recording of Barbra‘s last ‘Music That Makes Me Dance’ on Broadway. And I sent it to her and I was like, ‘I think you have to end the song like this.’ It was in a different version that they were doing. I love ‘The Music That Makes Me Dance,’” Jonathan said.
On her first night in Funny Girl, Lea got a standing ovation after the song!
