Kathy Najimy Reveals Why Mary's Crooked Smile is Backwards in 'Hocus Pocus 2'

Hocus Pocus 2 just premiered this week and fans are already talking about a lot of things in the movie – but one of the most noticeable things is that Mary’s crooked smile is backwards!

In the original movie, Kathy Najimy had Mary’s smile tilted to her right (your left), but in the sequel, it’s opposite.

Now, Kathy is revealing why the change was made.

It turns out that she just can’t do the left tilt any longer.

“It’s on the other side mainly because it’s so hard for me to do it on the side I did it on 30 years ago,” she explained while speaking to EW. “I’m sure the fans are going to go into deep detail about why it’s on the other side.”

Kathy added that it was “something I came up with the first week. This is a big comedy, so you don’t have to be subtle or have a 40-page Shakespearean backstory.”

The change was still explained in the sequel, though.

“We can justify it because there’s a scene at the beginning where Winnie slaps me, and my mouth goes to the other side, and then she slaps me again and it goes to the other side, and sticks.”

Find out if there’s a special end credits scene in the movie here!
