Nick Kroll Addresses 'Insanity' of 'Don't Worry Darling' Drama

Nick Kroll is sharing his thoughts on all the drama surrounding his latest movie Don’t Worry Darling.

For those who haven’t seen the movie yet, the 44-year-old actor portrays Dean, the husband of Olivia Wilde‘s character Bunny.

In a new interview, Nick looked back at receiving backlash after sitting on a panel for the TV show Cavemen at the Television Critics Association, and if that experience “prepared” him for the Don’t Worry Darling drama.

Cavemen aired for one season in 2007 and was inspired by Geico commercials. Accusations that the series was “racist” was unexpectedly brought up during the panel.

“I learned so much going through that, like how you can’t predict how something’s going to be received,” Nick told The Hollywood Reporter. “You can’t predict any of it. And I was young enough then where I was like, ‘I’m funny, I’ll be funny about this.’ But if that happened today, I would not be doing bits around it. I’d be as quiet and boring as possible.”

Nick then addressed if the experience “prepared” him for the Don’t Worry Darling press tour amid all of the rumored behind-the-scenes drama with Olivia and stars Harry Styles and Florence Pugh.

“It prepared me to be part of something that everyone was interested in, but here’s the difference: The Don’t Worry Darling trailer came out, and people were excited about it. People have been thinking about this movie for a while,” Nick explained.

“Then all of the mishegas happens, the drama around the movie started to take hold, and I was not a part of any of that,” Nick continued. “I’m not distancing myself at all, I just wasn’t doing press at that point.”

Nick said he first witnessed how the movie was being received during the Venice Film Festival.

“Ohhhh, I think people might be interested in this.” Nick said with a laugh. “And I was right.”

Nick continued, “And all the insanity, so much of it was nonsense. It was like, ‘Yeah, I’m happy to talk about this, this is insane.’”

Nick also talked about his experience filming Don’t Worry Darling, amid reports that Florence and Olivia got into a “screaming match” on set.

“And in the case of Don’t Worry Darling, we made it in the thick of COVID, pre-vaccine, when L.A. was an epicenter and it was incredibly stressful,” Nick explained. “However, when we were actually working and when I was hanging out with the other people making the movie, I had a blast.”

In a recent interview, Nick addressed speculation that Harry spit on Chris Pine during the Don’t Worry Darling screening at Venice.
