Christina Applegate Addresses Acting Future Following MS Diagnosis

Christina Applegate is opening up about her future in Hollywood following her multiple sclerosis diagnosis.

Ahead of the premiere of the final season of Dead to Me, the 50-year-old actress admitted that her role as Jen Harding on the Netflix series is “quite possibly the last one” she’ll ever play.

While speaking to Variety, Christina explained that she doesn’t “know how capable” she will be at acting on camera going forward, adding that she’s still “just a newbie to all of this” and “trying to figure it out.”

“I got diagnosed while we were working, and I had to call everybody and be like, ‘I have multiple sclerosis, guys. Like, what the f–k!’” Christina recalled. “And then it was about kind of learning — all of us learning — what I was going to be capable of doing.”

Christina explained that Dead to Me gave her a couple of months off “so that I could mourn, and find treatment” and the show reworked the schedule daily depending on how she was feeling.

“You can see the struggle, and you can see it through the whole season,” Christina added. “You can see that I’m in pain.”

While Christina said she’s “pretty convinced” that Dead to Me will be her last role, she isn’t completely ruling out acting projects in the future.

“It’s about finding what I’m capable of doing. I’m so new in this right now,” Christina explained. “It takes time to kind of figure out this disease, and figure out what’s bringing on symptom.”

She continued, “But who knows — I’m probably gonna get real bored of being in my room.”

Christina also added that she would still “like to develop stuff, I’d like to produce stuff. I’ve got a lot of ideas in my mind, and I just need to get them executed.”

Christina first went public with her MS diagnosis back in August 2021.
