Steven Spielberg Tests Positive for COVID, Misses Michelle Williams Tribute at Gotham Awards 2022

Steven Spielberg was unable to present Michelle Williams with her tribute award at the 2022 Gotham Awards as he tested positive for COVID-19.

The Oscar-winning director was replaced by The Fabelmans actor Paul Dano, who talked about Spielberg‘s COVID diagnosis while presenting the award to Michelle.

Paul plays the director’ father in the semi-autobiographical movie while Michelle plays the mother. While presenting her with the award, he opened up about a conversation they had about her early days in Hollywood.

Paul said during his speech, “Michelle said, ‘I remember just driving around town looking for work.’ And I thought, ‘Imagine if that teenage girl knew that at the midpoint of her career she’d be seeing a tribute award at the Gothams from none other than Steven Spielberg, and what would she have thought?’ Then I thought, ‘Well, what if we had to tell that girl that Steven got Covid?’ She’d be like, ‘What’s Covid?’ and that ‘Paul Dano was going to introduce you?’ She’d be like, ‘Who the f–k is Paul Dano?’”

Steven is also postponing a DGA screening of The Fabelmans that was scheduled for this week, according to Variety.
