Olivia Colman Reacts to 'Heartstopper' Son Kit Connor Coming Out as Bisexual After Being Bullied

Olivia Colman is speaking out after her on-screen Heartstopper son Kit Connor came out as bisexual after being bullied on social media.

The Oscar-winning actress opened up while attending the L.A. premiere of her movie Empire of Light on Thursday (December 1) at the Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills, Calif.

Olivia was joined at the premiere by her co-stars Colin Firth and Micheal Ward. The movie will be released in theaters on December 9.

While on the red carpet at the premiere, Olivia spoke to Variety about Kit‘s coming out.

“I am so proud of him, but I am not proud of how people bullied him,” she said. “I think people should be allowed to have their own journey. But I’m incredibly proud of him as a young man to deal with all of that and be in the spotlight. It’s unfair. But he’s amazing. He’s a very beautiful human being.”

Olivia also talked about accepting the role in the Netflix series.

“I said yes before I had read it and when I read it, I went, ‘Oh, it’s really important,’” she said. “If any of my children experienced that, I’d want them to know that the world can be beautiful and accepting and loving.”
