Idina Menzel Reveals She Underwent IVF While Touring to Try & Have Baby with Husband Aaron Lohr

Idina Menzel has gotten real about her struggles with in-vitro fertilization (IVF).

The 51-year-old Wicked actress gets very vulnerable in the upcoming documentary, Idina Menzel: Which Way to the Stage? which follows her national tour in 2018, all while going through multiple rounds of IVF.

Idina married actor Aaron Lohr in 2017. “Maybe before meeting me, [Aaron] didn’t think he wanted to have kids, and then he sees how good of a dad he can be,” she told People. “So I wanted that for him.”

“I’m literally going through stuff that I’m shooting into my body and I don’t know how that’s going to affect my voice,” she said of the journey of touring and IVF treatments simultaneously. Idina decided to share this journey with others not knowing the outcome of the treatments.

“No matter what the outcome, I just wanted women to feel seen in this film and people to understand what we go through. It was important to me to forgo the privacy of that and allow people to have a little window into that experience,” Idina said.

But the journey is now over as both Idina and Aaron have “moved beyond that.” She has 13-year-old son Walker, with ex-husband Taye Diggs.

“I have this amazing son and I was fortunate enough to have him. And the pregnancy was pretty easy and I conceived easily, and there’s a lot of people that don’t even get to have that,” Idina said with gratitude.

Idina Menzel: Which Way to the Stage? will be streaming December 9 on Disney+.
