R. Kelly Seemingly Releases 'I Admit' Album From Prison, But It Was Rapidly Removed From Streaming Platforms - Here's What Happened

A new R. Kelly album briefly appeared on streaming services on Friday (December 5). However, it has since been removed amid accusations of theft and bootlegging.

The 55-year-old hitmaker who destroyed his legacy after being found guilty of various sex crimes is currently serving a 30-year sentence for sex trafficking and racketeering.

However, he appeared to have released an album called I Admit from his prison cell this week. The project has since been wiped from streaming platforms, and his former label and team are speaking out.

A representative for R. Kelly‘s former label Sony Music told Variety that the album was not an official release even though it was uploaded to services such as Spotify with copyright registered to Song Music’s “Legacy Recordings.”

Jennifer Bonjean, one of R. Kelly‘s attorneys, also denied that they were behind the release and claimed that the singer “is having intellectual property stolen from him.”

Spotify also responded to requests for comments regarding why I Admit was removed from the platform: “This content has been removed from the platform at the request of the distributor.”

It appears that the album might have been uploaded by the label Real Talk Entertainment. However, it is not immediately clear if that was the case or if they own the artist’s music that is not owned by Sony Music.

On top of his 30-year sentence, R. Kelly was found guilty of additional charges in September.
