Angelina Jolie Steps Back From United Nations’ Refugee Agency Special Envoy Role

Angelina Jolie is stepping back from her role with the United Nations.
The 47-year-old actress and activist has been acting as a special enjoy to the U.N,’s refugee agency since 2002.
She confirmed the news that she was “moving on” in a joint statement released with the organization.

Angelina‘s departure will allow her “to engage on a broader set of humanitarian and human rights issues,” according to the statement, which was shared with HuffPost.
“After a long and successful time with UNHCR, I appreciate her desire to shift her engagement and support her decision,” Filippo Grandi, U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees, said. “I know the refugee cause will remain close to her heart, and I am certain she will bring the same passion and attention to a wider humanitarian portfolio.”
The star has been associated with the organization since at least 2001 and delivered a speech about human rights in 2019.
