Ron Howard Reveals What It Would Take For Him To Come Out Of Retirement

Ron Howard hasn’t acted on screen since 1986.

The 68-year-old director became a household name in the 1960s and 1970s with The Andy Griffith Show and Happy Days, but after appearing in 1986′s TV movie, Return to Mayberry, he turned to mainly directing.

In a new interview, Ron opened up about what would make him return to acting.

During a new interview with Variety, Ron said that if he would return to appearing on the screen, it would be because his daughter Bryce Dallas Howard was directing him.

“It would probably be Bryce,” he shared. “It would probably be Bryce directing something and saying, ‘Dad, I really need you to come in and do this,’ or ‘You have to.’ Either of those would probably get me in the makeup chair and in front of the camera.”

However, Ron knows that doesn’t mean that Bryce will cast him in her next project.

“She’s very astute and meticulous,” he says of the possible nepotism involved. Ron added, “So unless I’m right for something, absolutely right, it ain’t happening.”

Ron has directed such films as Apollo 13, How The Grinch Stole Christmas, and the most recent, Thirteen Lives.
