HBO's 'The Last of Us' Reportedly Has A Bigger Budget Than The First Five Seasons of 'Game of Thrones'

HBO pulled out all they had for the television adaptation of The Last Of Us.

Ahead of the premiere, which happens on January 15, the magazine put a spotlight on the how the series came to life, revealing that a massive amount of money was put up for the show.

There was no actual number reported from the network, but The New Yorker says that the number was “upward of a hundred million dollars” for the first season of The Last of Us.

To put this in perspective, the first five seasons of Game of Thrones ranged from 50 to 80 million.

In a separate interview, creators Neil Druckmann and Craig Mazin also spoke about the length of the series, which won’t go beyond the scope of the video game franchise.

Part of the reason for that is because Part III of the franchise hasn’t been confirmed by Naughty Dog.

Craig added that he doesn’t “have any interest in a spinning-plates-go-on-forever show. When it becomes a perpetual motion machine, it just can’t help but get kind of…stupid. Endings mean everything to me.”
