Austin Butler Said He Was 'Guided by My Terror' While Filming 'Elvis' - Watch Now

Austin Butler is looking back at the intense experience of transforming into Elvis Presley.

On Monday night (January 9), the 31-year-old actor stopped by Jimmy Kimmel Live! where he opened up about his years-long process of getting into character for Elvis.

While speaking with Jimmy, Austin admitted it was difficult for him at first to really embody Elvis amid the coronavirus lockdowns.

“And then once I was allowed to leave the apartment, I would usually wake up every day around 3 or 4 in the morning with this terror,” Austin recalled.

He added, “It was just such a daunting thing. I really was just guided by my terror.”

When production for the movie was put on pause because of the pandemic, Austin worried that he would lose all of the progress he made about transforming into Elvis so he covered his apartment walls with photographs of Elvis over the years and made compilations of Elvis’ voice and laugh.

“I’d walk down the beach for hours with a headphone in, laughing as Elvis,” Austin said with a laugh, recalling the weird looks he would get from surfers. “So it looked like [I was] this man, just absolutely out of his mind.”

In another recent interview, Austin revealed how long he went without seeing his family as he prepared for and filmed Elvis.
