Bella Ramsey Reveals She Perfected Her American Accent on 'The Last of Us' With Curse Words

Bella Ramsey is opening up about how she perfected her American accent for The Last of Us.

The 19-year-old actress stars as Ellie in the upcoming HBO series, opposite Pedro Pascal, and in a new interview revealed that she had a trick to keeping her accent going.

During her recent appearance on The Late Late Show with James Corden, Bella first shared that her “dialect coach which was helpful. “The first phrase I mastered was ‘olive oil.’ It’s really hard, like, ‘olive oil.’”

She then shared the next word, which was bleeped out on the show.

“The character that I play in this show, The Last of Us, Ellie, curses every two seconds. So that was definitely important. There are so many [curse words],” she notes.

In a separate interview with CBR, Bella emphasized that her relation to Ellie was through the curse words.

“A great portion of my relatability to Ellie has to do with her love of puns and her love of cursing. Ellie actually taught me to curse and taught me how to do it well,” she said.
