Prince Harry Talks Deleted 'Spare' Stories, Many About Prince William, & Reveals Why He Removed Them

Prince Harry cut so much content from his best-selling memoir Spare that he could have released two books.

It might be hard to believe since the 38-year-old Duke of Sussex’s book is filled with bombshell revelations about his family and vivid details about his private life; however, the royal confirmed that he could have shared more.

He opened up about how he decided what made the cut in a new interview. Spoiler alert: A lot of the deleted stories had to do with Prince William.

Prince Harry told the Telegraph that the initial draft for Spare was 800 pages long. He explained that some of the stories he wrote were not ever intended for publication and only provided backstory to his writing partner.

He implied that much of what was cut had to do with his family and spoke about “the scale of things I could include for family members.”

“Look, anything I’m going to include about any of my family members, I’m going to get trashed for. I knew that walking into it. But it’s impossible to tell my story without them in it, because they play such a crucial part in it,” he said.

Prince Harry continued, “But there are some things that have happened, especially between me and my brother, and to some extent between me and my father, that I just don’t want the world to know. Because I don’t think they would ever forgive me.”

Does he think they’d forgive him for the bombshells he did include within the pages? The answer was complicated.

“Now you could argue that some of the stuff I’ve put in there, well, they will never forgive me anyway. But the way I see it is, I’m willing to forgive you for everything you’ve done, and I wish you’d actually sat down with me, properly, and instead of saying I’m delusional and paranoid, actually sit down and have a proper conversation about this, because what I’d really like is some accountability,” the prince said. “And an apology to my wife.”

Various members of the royal family have reacted to the book and its allegations. You might also be interested in what Prince Harry‘s ghostwriter had to say about mistakes in the memoir.
