Amy Grant Says She Still Forgets Song Lyrics To Her Songs Following 2022 Bike Accident

Amy Grant is opening up about how she’s doing six months after her bike accident.

The 62-year-old “Baby, Baby” singer, who was recently honored at the Kennedy Center Honors, spoke to E! News about the effects of the accident, and revealed that she still has some memory loss.

During her interview with the outlet, Amy said that her recovery process is still ongoing and she does still forget lyrics to her songs.

“I don’t remember the beginning of it,” Amy shared about the accident. “My memory is still coming back, and the stamina, they say 12-18 months after an injury like that.”

She went on, “Six months in, so I feel really good! I anticipate just getting better. So far, right now, I use a teleprompter [for song lyrics]. There’s one tonight. I’m so glad. I used a teleprompter on the Christmas Tour.”

“Honestly, I can’t remember what I don’t remember,” Amy added about her lapses in memory. “I was at dinner the other night with a high school friend. We used to spend the night at each other’s houses. I said, ‘I’m embarrassed to ask you, are you and your husband still together?’ She said that Douglas died seven years ago, and it was like I had just heard it for the first time!”

Amy says that her “brain is all about reconnecting all those things, but [the memory loss has] been a bit of a blessing. Like, I saw someone at the airport, and they said, ‘Hey it’s good to see you!’ I said, ‘Call me crazy. You’re going to have to tell me your name!’ It was someone I knew. Everyone would like this excuse! Everyone should do this. It makes life easier to just say the truth of what is.”

This past July, Amy had hit a pothole with her bike, which caused her to be thrown off the vehicle. She was hospitalized for a concussion, and had to postpone several concerts during her recovery.

She only recently returned to the stage in November.
