Alec Baldwin's Lawyer Responds to Involuntary Manslaughter Charges in 'Rust' Shooting of Halyna Hutchins

News just broke that Alec Baldwin will be charged with 2 counts of involuntary manslaughter in the tragic death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins. Halyna was shot and killed on set with a prop gun fired by Alec while filming their movie Rust in October 2021.

Luke Nikas, Baldwin‘s lawyer, just released a statement.

Nikas told Just Jared, “This decision distorts Halyna Hutchins’ tragic death and represents a terrible miscarriage of justice. Mr. Baldwin had no reason to believe there was a live bullet in the gun – or anywhere on the movie set. He relied on the professionals with whom he worked, who assured him the gun did not have live rounds. We will fight these charges, and we will win.”

Earlier today, the Santa Fe County district attorney, Mary Carmack-Altwies, revealed that armorer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed and Alec would both be charged with two counts of involuntary manslaughter and she released a statement about her findings.

“After a thorough review of the evidence and the laws of the state of New Mexico, I have determined that there is sufficient evidence to file criminal charges against Alec Baldwin and other members of the ‘Rust’ film crew,” Carmack-Altwies said in a statement (via NBC). “On my watch, no one is above the law, and everyone deserves justice.”

Assistant director on the film, David Halls, also plead guilty to a charge of negligent use of a deadly weapon in a plea deal situation, according to the DA.
