Is This Why Madonna's Biopic was Cancelled? The Queen of Pop Reportedly Had a Different Vision for the Script

The saga of Madonna‘s biopic will deserve its own movie years from now.

If you forgot, the 64-year-old “Four Minutes” pop icon has been working on a movie about her life since late 2020. She reportedly auditioned a multitude of actresses to play her before finally selecting the perfect star.

However, the movie was put on ice, allegedly so that she could prepare for her upcoming tour. A new report is suggesting that the cancelled plans might have actually stemmed from a debate about the script.

A friend of Madonna‘s opened up to Page Six about the project, saying that the Queen of Pop ran into creative differences while working with Universal Pictures.

“Basically, they don’t like it,” they said of Madonna‘s planned script. “They want it to be pop and light. Madonna wants something much grittier, and it’s come to a stalemate.”

That doesn’t mean that a movie won’t eventually be released. It just might not be with the same studio.

“She’d rather go to another studio than change the script. She still wants to make the film, but will now look at it again after the tour,” the source continued. “She’s keeping the same writers, but is aware that she might have to recast if the actors aren’t available.”

Madonna was seemingly working with Erin Wilson on the project after her first collaborator Diablo Cody left in April 2021.

Do you know how much the cancelled movie will reportedly cost Universal Pictures? Hint: It’s a lot!
