John Legend Reveals Daughter's Esti Name Has A Very Special Meaning

John Legend is opening up about his daughter, Esti‘s name.

The 44-year-old musician just welcomed the baby with wife, Chrissy Teigen, upping their family from four to five.

After the couple revealed Esti‘s name, some fans were taken back by the unique moniker. However, there’s a special meaning behind the name.

It turns out that Esti is in tribute to a relative of John‘s.

“It turns out, my great-grandmother was named Esther,” he explained to E! News. “It wasn’t intentionally after someone, but once Chrissy told me that idea, I was like, ‘Oh, my great-grandmother’s name was Esther.’”

It’s not just Esti‘s first name either, as her middle name was also inspired by another relative of his.

“We wanted to already name her middle name Maxine after my grandmother, whose middle name was Maxine,” John added. “So, it’s a lot of my family in the name.”

John and Chrissy also share two older children, Luna, 6, and Miles, 4. They suffered a pregnancy loss with their son, Jack, in 2020.
