Austin Butler Addresses Lingering Elvis Presley Accent, Says He 'Probably Damaged' His Vocal Cords

Austin Butler is slowly saying goodbye to his Elvis Presley accent.

After winning the 2023 Golden Globe for his work playing the King of Rock and Roll in Elvis, many questioned why he still sounded like Elvis all these years after filming ended.

While appearing on The Graham Norton Show on Friday (February 3), Austin, 31, said that his lingering accent is on it’s way out, but playing Elvis may have left him with some damage.

I am getting rid of the accent, but I have probably damaged my vocal cords with all that singing,” Austin shared during his interview, according to ET Online. “One song took 40 takes.”

Austin recently received his first Oscar nomination for his role in Elvis.

“It has been a whirlwind, and it’s amazing because when you are making a film you never really know how it will be received,” Butler says. “With this one there were so many ways it could go wrong so to be received in the way it has means the world to me.”
