Ben Aldridge Reflects on Coming Out Publicly as Gay at 34, Says 'I Could Just Breathe Easier'

Ben Aldridge is looking back at the impact coming out publicly had on him.
While promoting his new thriller Knock at the Cabin, the 37-year-old actor said he “felt so powerful” after coming out as gay in June 2020 when he was 34-years-old.

“Oh you’re going to make me cry. It sounds dramatic, but I could just breathe easier,” Ben shared on the Just for Variety podcast. “I underestimated how significant that was to me. I really did. I thought, it’s not that I’d played it down, but I didn’t know what it would do to me physically. And just for days afterward I was like, ‘I needed that so badly.’”
“I wasn’t aware of how much I needed to do that and how much I’d potentially hung onto, conveniently hidden behind,” Ben added.
Ben also noted that he felt “so powerful to be able to stand alongside and be part of my community” in that moment.
A few months ago, Ben explained how another one of his new movies presented gay characters in a different way than he’s ever seen before.
