Kim Petras Makes LGBTQ+ History With Her Win Alongside Sam Smith at Grammys 2023

Kim Petras is a winner, as is Sam Smith!

The two superstars won for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance for their hit song “Unholy” at the 2023 Golden Globe Awards held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel on Tuesday night (January 10) in Beverly Hills, Calif.

Before receiving the award, Kim told the crowd that Sam wanted her to give the speech as the first trans woman in history to win in that category.

During the speech, Kim emotionally gave credit to SOPHIE, the late trans icon and pioneering producer, as well as Madonna, as Sam happily cheered her on from behind and encouraged the crowd to stand up for a standing ovation.
