Michelle Yeoh Speaks Out About The Suggestions She Got About Retiring From Acting

Michelle Yeoh is opening up about how much it was suggested that she should retire from acting in a new podcast interview with the LA Times.

The Oscar nominee revealed that just before she got her role in Everything Everywhere All At Once, it was still being implied that she should take retirement seriously.

Michelle says that while she wasn’t told straight out that she should retire, the feeling was always there, as roles were not coming in.

“You know, as you get older, people start saying, ‘Oh yeah, you should retire. You should do this. You should – ,” she explained. “No, guys. Do not tell me what to do. I should be in control of what I am capable of, right?”

Michelle went on, saying that there need to be more roles offered to older actors, because “there are beautiful stories that still need [us].”

“We should not back down and say, ‘Well, OK, I’ll just like accept it,’” she added. “But then, those roles are not so many. So we have to find ways to tell these storytellers, ‘Don’t look at us as being older women. Just look at us as great actors and actors who can help you tell your story.’”
