Pink Opens Up About Heartbreaking Inspiration for Her Song 'Who Knew,' Duets with Kelly Clarkson

Pink opened up about the heartbreaking inspiration behind her song “Who Knew.”

The 42-year-old hitmaker went Top 10 with the emotional single when she released it in 2006.

More than 15 years after the fact, she reflected on the song’s meaning and turned it into a duet with Kelly Clarkson.

During an appearance on The Kelly Clarkson Show earlier this week, Pink told Kelly that the song was written while she was mourning the tragic loss of her friends as a teen.

“I lost several friends, unfortunately, to overdose, and the second one was very, very, very close to me, and I loved him very much,” she explained.

While that was the initial inspiration, Pink added that she song’s meaning has shifted over the years.

“But the thing that I love about the song now, after all these years, is that I never get tired of performing it, and it’s taken on so many different meanings over the years. It was about my grandmother at one point. It was about my dog,” she explained. “I’ve lost people, so it’s always sort of fresh in my heart.”

She then performed the song, and Kelly provided some vocal support.

This isn’t the first time Kelly has duetted with a fellow star on her show.
