'Grey's Anatomy' Spoilers: Here's How Meredith Grey Said Goodbye in Ellen Pompeo's Farewell Episode, Including a Cliffhanger Ending!

Ellen Pompeo‘s farewell episode just aired and we can finally fill you in on how Meredith Grey said goodbye to Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital.

While this is being billed as Meredith’s farewell episode, Ellen is scheduled to reprise the role in the season 19 finale in May and she’ll continue to provide voiceover work. There’s also a chance she’ll return in the future.

So, what happened in the “I’ll Follow the Sun” episode?

Meredith received a send-off at the hospital ahead of her move to Boston, where she will work on finding a cure to Alzheimer’s. During the goodbye party, she told her co-workers that she would be back for visits. “I’m only going to Boston and you know I’ll probably be here next week,” she said.

There was a cliffhanger ending when it came to Meredith’s storyline with romantic interest Dr. Nick Marsh, played by Scott Speedman.

Meredith had previously told Nick that she loves him, but he didn’t say it back. He missed the chance to see her before she got on the plane to Boston, so he called her up to say he loves her.

“I love you. I fell in love with you the first day I met you, I fell in love with you the second day I met you, and I’ve loved you every minute of every day that I’ve known you,” Nick said, but he received silence from Meredith.

While Meredith clearly heard Nick, she pretended to lose connected and responded, “I can’t quite hear you. We are about to take off. I’ll call you when we get settled.” After Meredith hung up, we saw Nick sitting in his car looking upset.

So, will Meredith and Nick stay together? Hopefully we’ll find out during the season 19 finale!!!
