Tom Cruise Sets the Record Straight & Finally Addresses the Rumors About Playing Iron Man in Marvel Universe

Tom Cruise makes good use of an umbrella to keep him dry while arriving to tape his appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Friday (February 24) in Los Angeles.

The 60-year-old actor kept it casual ahead of the taping, but made sure to wave to fans who were braving the wet weather to see him.

Just a few days ago, Tom squashed a long-rumored story about him being in the running to play Tony Stark in Marvel’s Iron Man and Avengers movies.

During an interview with Phase Zero, Tom revealed that he actually wasn’t even close to landing the role.

“Not close,” he said. “I love Robert Downey Jr., and I can’t imagine anyone else doing that role, and I think it’s perfect for him.”

However, it doesn’t seem that Tom is ruling superhero roles out at all.

“I look at a movie and think, you know, I don’t rule anything out. It’s “What’s the story? What’s the character?” he shared of his process to chose the projects he does.
