When Calls the Heart's Pascale Hutton Was Only Originally Going To Appear In Just 2 Episodes

When Pascale Hutton first appeared on When Calls the Heart as Rosemary Coulter, she had no idea she’d become a fan favorite.

Despite only being initially cast for two episodes, the 43-year-old actress’s portrayal of the vivacious and outspoken character captured the hearts of viewers and earned her a permanent place in Hope Valley.

Arriving in Hope Valley with the intention of reigniting her romance with Mountie Jack Thornton, Pascale Hutton’s character Rosemary Coulter faced disappointment when she learned Jack had fallen for Elizabeth.

Undeterred, Rosemary made the decision to remain in town and soon found her place in the community. Though her efforts to win Jack’s heart weren’t successful, Rosemary’s presence on When Calls the Heart became a beloved and integral part of the show’s later seasons.

Speaking with actor Colin Egglesfield on his podcast, Pascale detailed how her guest starring role turned into a permanent one.

“I was on another TV series. I was a series regular on another show. I kind of went in [to the audition] just on a lark,” she shared with Colin, recalling her audition for the Hallmark series.

Pascale added that “at that time, I thought it was just supposed to be a two-episode guest arc. So I thought, ‘This seems like something fun to do during my hiatus.’ I didn’t know what I was getting into at the time.”

After her two episodes, Pascale was surprised to see that Rosemary’s final line revealed her intention to stick around after receiving the scripts.

While she was unsure about returning to the show due to her commitments on Arctic Air, that dilemma was soon resolved when the CBC canceled the show.

The actual next day, producer Brad Krevoy invited her to become a regular cast member.
