Tennis Star Taylor Fritz Becomes First American Man to Rank in the Top 5 Since 2009

Taylor Fritz just reached a new career-high!

The 25-year-old Californian tennis player surpassed Russia’s Andrey Rublev and Spain’s Rafael Nadal, moving from No. 7 to No. 5, behind Serbia’s Novak Djokovic, Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz, Greece’s Stefanos Tsitsipas and Norway’s Casper Ruud.

Earlier this month, Taylor captured the title at the Delray Beach
Open, where he defeated Serbia’s Miomir Kecmanović, 6-0, 5-7, 6-2.

Taylor is the first American man to be ranked within the Top 5 since Andy Roddick in September 2009 and the 21st American man to rank in the Top 5 since the beginning of the ATP rankings in 1973.

Also today, Novak has broken the record for most career weeks at No. 1 in tennis history! He kicked off his 378th career week at the top spot, surpassing Steffi Graf’s women’s record of 377.

“Obviously Steffi Graf is one of the biggest legends of our sport, both men’s and women’s tennis, and someone that I truly admire and respect,” Novak said last week at a press conference. “Of course it’s very flattering that I am able to equal her record, and obviously have a possibility to break the record as well, next week.”
