Evan Rachel Wood Responds to Accusation of Manipulating Marilyn Manson Accuser who Rescinded Abuse Allegations

Evan Rachel Wood is taking a stand after Ashley Morgan Smithline claimed she “manipulated” her into taking Marilyn Manson to court over alleged sexual abuse that she later denied happened.

Earlier this month, Ashley filed formal court documents to rescind all of her claims about the controversial musician. In them, she implied that Evan, who has also accused Marilyn of abuse, pushed her into coming forward with an untrue story.

She also said she felt “pressured” by her legal team to speak out about the alleged experience to the press.

Evan filed new documents in court contesting the claim about her involvement in the case and presenting new evidence that implies Ashley is lying.

According to Rolling Stone, Evan produced more than three years of reported correspondence with Ashley that discounts her recent claims.

An alleged voicemail even includes a reference to pressure to “turn on the other girls and say it [her abuse accusation] was all a ruse.” The reported conversation between Ashley and a friend mentions that Marilyn‘s legal team was pushing for that, and that she felt like she was being treated as “the weak link.”

Other messages included references to hate that Ashley was receiving online after coming forward with her allegations.

“The real pressure Smithline faced was not to make allegations against Plaintiff—it was to retract them,” the docs read. “Smithline’s declaration is therefore wholly unreliable.”

Ashley responded to a request for comment from the publication, saying, “Evan’s full of shit. That’s my comment.” She added that it was an attempt to “discredit” her.

Evan has previously spoken about her experience after going public with her accusations against the star.
