Get to Know Broadway's 'Shucked' Star Kevin Cahoon with These 10 Fun Facts! (Exclusive)

Shucked is a brand new musical that begins previews TONIGHT on Broadway and we caught up with star Kevin Cahoon to learn more about him!

The new show is billed as a “hilarious and audacious farm-to-fable musical about the one thing Americans everywhere can’t get enough of: corn.”

Kevin has been working on Shucked for the last eight years and is the only cast member remaining from day one. He will be returning to Broadway after a 16-year absence, previously appearing in shows like The Lion King, The Wedding Singer, and The Rocky Horror Show. You can also catch him in TV shows like Fox’s Monarch and Netflix’s GLOW.

Here are 10 Fun Facts about Kevin:

  1. I have had the great honor to act alongside both “Thelma and Louise.” I played Earl Clark opposite Susan Sarandon’s Dottie Roman on FOX’s Monarch and Bobby Barnes opposite Geena Davis’s Sandy Deveraux St. Clair on Netflix’s GLOW. Now waiting for my phone call from Brad……
  2. In the late 90’s to mid 2000’s, I founded and fronted a glam punk band called KCGC. We played every cool downtown NYC music venue including Irving Plaza, Don Hill’s, Ars Nova, Joe’s Pub, and pinch numerous times….CBGB’s. We released an album called Doll and we unabashedly flew our glitter coated Queer flags!
  3. When I was a kid, my grandparents gave me a monkey for Christmas. I put ‘monkey’ on my Christmas list year after year. I have no idea where they got her from. I named her Molly. We became the best of friends. I also repeatedly put ‘llama’ on the list. Still waiting on that, but never give up!
  4. From the age of 5 through my sophomore year of High School, I performed as the World’s Youngest Rodeo Clown. You see, make-up started early in my career traveling the rodeo circuit in Texas and Oklahoma, including the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo at the Astrodome. I received a Letter of Citation from then Texas Govenor Bill Clements and a trophy belt buckle or two. My rodeo roots.
  5. When I was 13, I won the television show Star Search as the Teen Male Vocalist Grand Champion singing show tunes! The next thing I knew I was doing the summer tour of a revue called The Stars of Star Search with Sinbad and Katt Adams. A surreal situation for a former rodeo clown. Am I the only former rodeo clown to have sung show tunes on Star Search???

  1. While I was at NYU, I interned at MTV News. My ‘crack of dawn’ job was to go through every major newspaper, choose and CUT OUT articles that would be I thought would be of interest to Kurt Loder, Tabitha Soren, and the rest of the MTV news team. This daily dossier was the seed for my love of the NY Times, which I have read every single day since.
  2. The first time I performed on The Tony Awards, I was in the front right leg of the elephant in the ‘Circle of Life’ number as a member of the original cast of The Lion King. I originated the role of Ed the Hyena, but since we hyenas did not appear until midway thru Act One, we were given ‘Bertha’ duties, as we lovingly named Julie Taymor and Michael Curry’s brilliant life size pachyderm.
  3. My first rock concert was Joan Jett and The Blackhearts at Six Flags Astroworld Ampitheatre. I was 9. It was seismic moment for me. As the fates would have it, I would perform alongside Joan Jett in the 2000 Broadway Revival of The Rocky Horror Show. You can’t make this up!
  4. Along the lines of the above, I was obsessed with the television show Designing Women. I watched every episode and have been known to recite certain scenes by heart. As the fates would have it yet again, the Tony Award Winning writer of Shucked, Robert Horn, wrote Designing Women!! If you could have told me then that one day I would be working with him and getting to call him one of my nearest and dearest, I would not have believed you.
  5. Shucked will be my 6th Broadway show and the first one whose production is not based on or inspired by a movie. A completely original, brand new, rhinestoned, star spangled American Musical Comedy. AND I get to wear cowboy boots. THIS IS MY DREAM!
