“[Fran] im curious for people like me who have worked since they were 10 and paid dues to [SAG-AFTRA] how when we aren’t able to work for health reasons why our union abandons us,” Shannen wrote on Instagram alongside a selfie of herself that appeared to be taken in a doctor’s office.

She continued, writing, “I think we can do better for all our members and I think you’re person to do it. Health insurance shouldn’t be based on annual income. It’s a lifetime contribution. And for me and many others, we have paid a lifetime of dues to only be canceled because we don’t meet your current criteria. Not ok.”

Stars including the likes of Alyssa Milano and Busy Philipps rushed to the comments section.

“I was just thinking about you today. Sending you love,” Alyssa wrote to her Charmed co-star, sending her several clapping emojis.

Busy noted that “too many of my friends have gone through this.” She called for the organization to “do better.”

“I agree! I’ve been a member of SAG for 50 years. Since they arbitrarily changed the rules, me and many other senior actors have lost our SAG insurance. It’s outrageous to pay dues your whole career and end up with no insurance,” Alana Stewart wrote.

Candace Cameron Bure wrote that it was “NOT OK.”

Brian Austin Green shared his own personal experience: “When I had my neurological breakdown I ended up having to do physical therapy, speech therapy, occupational therapy and spent 4 1/2 years recovering. SAG insurance dropped me after 9 months because I was no longer making money as an actor (still paying union dues) and buying my way into 1 of the many different levels of insurance based on what you make. I then had to pay out of pocket for the next few years to recover enough to work so I could get my health insurance back. I have been a member of the union since I was a kid and contributed in every way possible. I was even one of the many actors who contributed to the commercial actors fund when they went on strike years ago. The union is so tough on actors even considering working outside of it, but then completely abandons people when they need the union the most. This isn’t about bad mouthing for me. It’s about raising awareness, helping create a conversation and hopefully reaching an end goal of change. I love you @theshando. I will absolutely stand with you on this. You’re a beast, and I’m so lucky to call you a sister ❤️❤️ LETS DO THIS”

Shannen revealed that she’d been diagnosed with stage 4 cancer in 2020.
