Brooke Shields Reveals She Was Sexually Assaulted By a Hollywood Executive 30 Years Ago

Brooke Shields is bravely opening up about a sexual assault for the first time.

The 57-year-old model and actress makes the revelation in a two-part documentary, Brooke Shields: Pretty Baby.

“It’s taken me a long time to process it,” Brooke said. “I’m more angry now than I was able to be then. If you’re afraid, you’re rightfully so. They are scary situations. They don’t have to be violent to be scary.”

While at a low point in her career and desperate for work, she was invited by a powerful Hollywood executive to make a call for a cab from his hotel room where he assaulted her.

“I didn’t fight, I just froze,” she recalls in the documentary.

“No one is going to believe me. People weren’t believing those stories back then. I thought I would never work again,” Brooke said she was thinking at the time.

“Doing the documentary, you see it all together, and it’s a miracle that I survived,” she told People.

At the time, she says she actually blamed herself for the assault. “I kept saying, ‘I shouldn’t have done that. Why did I go up with him? I shouldn’t have had that drink at dinner,’ ” Brooke said.

“It was really easy to disassociate because by then it was old hat,” Brooke said of how she coped. “And because it was a fight-or-flight type of choice. Fight was not an option, so you just leave your body. ‘You’re not there. It didn’t happen.’ ”

Brooke is now sharing her story “with the hopes of helping people not feel alone.”

“Everybody processes their own trauma on a different timeline. I want to be an advocate for women to be able to speak their truth,” she concluded.
