'Jurassic Park' Star Sam Neill Opens Up About Receiving Stage-3 Cancer Diagnosis

Sam Neill, an actor you’ll recognize from the likes of Jurassic Park and Peaky Blinders, revealed that he was diagnosed with stage-three blood cancer.

The 75-year-old star shared his diagnosis abruptly in a teaser for his forthcoming memoir Did I Ever Tell You This?.

“The thing is, I’m crook. Possibly dying,” he wrote, adding that he “may have to speed this one up.” He opened up more about his treatment in an interview.

Sam told The Guardian that he noticed he was suffering from swollen glands in March 2022. His diagnosis – angioimmunoblastic T-cell lymphoma – followed, and he began undergoing treatments that will be ongoing.

At the moment, Sam has been declared free of cancer!

He explained that he used the time he was undergoing treatment to start writing his book.

“I never had any intention to write a book. But as I went on and kept writing, I realized it was actually sort of giving me a reason to live and I would go to bed thinking, ‘I’ll write about that tomorrow … that will entertain me.’ And so it was a lifesaver really, because I couldn’t have gone through that with nothing to do, you know,” he shared.

“I can’t pretend that the last year hasn’t had its dark moments,” he said of his treatments. “But those dark moments throw the light into sharp relief, you know, and have made me grateful for every day and immensely grateful for all my friends. Just pleased to be alive.”

Last year Sam revealed that he was happy to have missed out on a big role.
