Martina Navratilova Reveals That She is Cancer-Free Months After Sharing Diagnosis

Martina Navratilova has exciting news to share about her health.

The 66-year-old tennis star and wife of Real Housewives of Miami star Julia Lemigova revealed that she had been diagnosed with cancer at the start of the year.

Several months later, she shared that she was cancer free. She opened up about undergoing treatment and her thoughts about her outlook in a new interview.

Speaking with Piers Morgan, Martina said that she “was in a total panic for three days thinking I may not see next Christmas” after receiving her diagnosis, according to The Sun.

She had p,reviously been diagnosed with breast cancer. However, right before Christmas 2022 doctors told her that she had both breast and throat cancer. The cancers were not related.

They were optimistic that her treatment would be successful, saying that the cancers she had were “extremely treatable.”

Martina confirmed that she was cancer-free again and shared a video of herself ringing a bell to signify the end of her treatment course.

The athlete was brought to tears by Elton John‘s song “I’m Still Standing” while going through the process. The song had special meaning to her from a past experience.

“One time I picked Elton John [to listen to while at the hospital] and then he starts singing ‘I’m Still Standing’ which he dedicated to me at a concert in Paris during the French Open in the ‘80s,” she recalled. “So, when I’m in this mask not able to move and that song came on and I’m like, ‘Oh great, so I can’t really cry because I can’t swallow, I can’t move.’”

Now that she’s on the other side of her treatment, Martina said that she’s on the mend.

“I still don’t feel great but I feel better every day. I’m starting to taste things finally,” she shared. “So, I’m still dealing with recovery but, overall, I think just really seize the days, you know. You can never have them back again.

We are so happy to hear that Martina is doing better and hope that her health continues to improve!
