Michelle Rodriguez Explains Why She Turned Down an 'Avatar: The Way of Water' Cameo

Michelle Rodriguez was one of the biggest stars in 2009′s Avatar. However, she recently revealed that she was firmly against making a comeback for 2022′s Avatar: The Way of Water.

The 44-year-old Dungeons & Dragons actress played Trudy, a combat pilot who gave her life to protect the world of Pandora in the first movie.

She explained that director James Cameron offered her a spot in the franchise’s second movie during a recent interview. Michelle also shared why she felt it would be “overkill” for her to return to the role.

“Dude, when I saw Jim [Cameron] recently, he was like, ‘I was thinking, “What if Michelle came back? A lot of the other characters came back [in The Way of Water],’” she told Variety. “I was like, ‘You can’t do that — I died as a martyr.’”

This wouldn’t have been the first time that Michelle came back from the dead in a role.

“I came back in Resident Evil, I wasn’t supposed to. I came back in Machete, I wasn’t supposed to. I came back with Letty, I wasn’t supposed to. We can’t do a fourth [time], that would be overkill,” she opined.

Michelle also weighed in on why she keeps dying and coming back in her movies: “I guess they don’t know what to do with the girl who doesn’t have a boyfriend. ‘She doesn’t have a boyfriend. Should we keep her alive, or kill her?’”

The actress is booked and busy at the moment. She stars in Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, which premieres in theaters on March 31. She recently revealed how much muscle she put on for the part.
