A brand new player now holds the title of highest paid player in NFL history: Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts!

The 24-year-old young star led his team to the 2023 Super Bowl this year, but ultimately lost to the Kansas City Chiefs. Despite losing, Hurts made a name for himself this past season and showcased amazing potential on the field. The future is very bright for the Eagles and their fan base!

According to the NFL, the Eagles and Hurts have agreed to a five-year, $255 million contract extension.

The contract features a whopping $179.304 million in total guarantees throughout his tenure, including a massive $110 million fully guaranteed payout at the signing of the contract and another $126.5 million fully guaranteed in March 2024. This contract also marks another first for the Eagles franchise: the first no-trade clause in Philadelphia Eagles history. This means that the Eagles cannot suddenly trade away Hurts (and his massive contract) should his play decline over the years. This is a sign of faith from the Eagles that they have a lot of trust in Hurts‘ ability.

This contract is record setting as it pays Jalen around $51 million per year on average. The second-highest player based on contract numbers is Aaron Rodgers, who makes around $49 million per year.
