Patti LuPone Claims She Was Rejected by 'Schmigadoon,' Told She Was 'Too Old'

Patti LuPone says that she requested a role in the second season of Schmigadoon!, but was rejected for being “too old.”

The Apple TV+ series is an homage to beloved musicals and features so many fan-favorite stars from Broadway.

Patti is one of the most legendary musical theatre stars of all time with multiple Tony Award wins and iconic roles from shows like Evita, Les Miserables, Sweeney Todd, Anything Goes, War Paint, and more. You’d think she would be the perfect choice to star in Schmigadoon!

“I wanted to be in Schmigadoon!, and I was too old,” Patti told Mashable. The outlet asked her to clarify what she meant and she replied, “Exactly what I said. We reached out to them and said I want to be in Schmigadoon!. They said, ‘Sorry. You’re too old.’”

“It’s so sad. And it’s depressing,” she added. “It’s their loss! I don’t know what else to say. I so wanted to be in it!”

Patti just confirmed her role in another exciting series.
