John Stamos Reveals How He Briefly Got Mary-Kate & Ashley Olsen Fired From 'Full House'

Full House almost looked very different after John Stamos briefly got Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen fired during one of their first days of filming.

If you forgot, the famous twins were babies when they were cast to play Michelle Tanner. John played their Uncle Jesse who came in to help take care of Michelle and her sisters after their mother (his sister) died and left Bob Saget‘s Danny Tanner a single parent.

Unfortunately, a scene in the first episode proved difficult with the twins, leading to them being let go. John explained what happened and how the young stars were welcomed back.

During an episode of Dear Media’s Good Guys podcast, John explained that he and Dave Coulier ran into a big problem while filming a scene where they were changing the Olsen twins.

“We’re doing the scene. Joey [Coulier] and I were changing the baby, right? and Danny’s [Saget] gone and said, ‘Take care of the kids.’ ‘Yeah, we got it. We got it,’” he said, setting up the problematic scene. “So we’re carrying the baby downstairs, and we take her in the kitchen, and we hose her down. And she was screaming. Both of them. They wanted to be anywhere else but there, and so did I.”

“They were 11 months old, and God bless them,” John added, making it clear that he didn’t blame the young stars. “They kept switching, [saying] ‘This one’s not gonna cry.’”

He said that he “couldn’t deal” and told the team that “this is not gonna work.”

Mary-Kate and Ashley were then fired, and a new set of children were brought in. It was also not a good match.

“It was only a few days, and I said, ‘Bring the Olsens back! These kids are terrible,” he added.

The twins stayed with the show until its conclusion in 1995. They opted out of returning for the Netflix series Fuller House. There’s no word on if they’d be willing to return if the show got another revival, though Jodie Sweetin has a solid idea for a new run.

Speaking of Full House, another star from the show recently revealed that they had never seen a single episode all the way through.
