Reports suggested that Princess Catherine was going back and forth about if she’d wear a tiara in the weeks leading up to the coronation. The decision would have been one rooted in history.

“Tiaras were worn by nearly every royal lady at the Queen’s coronation in 1953, as well lots of aristocratic women but times have certainly changed in 70 years,” Lauren Kiehna, an expert in royal jewels, told People.

Instead of wearing a tiara, the Princess opted for a silver headpiece designed to replicate ornate leaves. It was designed by Jess Collett x Alexander McQueen. Princess Charlotte wore a matching headpiece.
