Michelle Yeoh Opens Up About 'Risk' of Accepting 'Wicked' Role

Michelle Yeoh described her role in the upcoming Wicked movies as a “risk.”

The 60-year-old Oscar winner is set to portray Shiz University headmistress Madame Morrible alongside the likes of Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande in the musical movies.

She opened up about accepting the role during a recent appearance, shining light on her decision to join the cast.

“I’m trying something new right now — filming Jon Chu’s Wicked movie, which will be my first musical,” Michelle said at the Fifth Annual Meihodo International Youth Visual Media Festival, according to EW. “It’s very exciting, and I can’t wait for you all to see it. It was a risk, but you will never know which doors will open for you unless you try them all.”

It’s unclear why exactly the role is a risk, though it is certainly a different sort of project for the actress. She’s fresh off a win at the 2023 Oscars for her role in Everything Everywhere All at Once.

Michelle has already revealed the sorts of roles that she’s looking to take after the historic win.
