Lizzo Reflects on Being ‘Canceled A Lot’ Throughout Career: ‘It Broke My Heart’

Lizzo is reflecting on being publicly scrutinized in the past.

The 37-year-old “Truth Hurts” singer opened up about what she’s learned about her controversies throughout the years in a recent interview.

“I’ve been canceled a lot. I shouldn’t say I’ve been canceled, because I’m still going, but I’ve gotten backlash a lot. Literally every single time I’ve received backlash I use it as a growing and learning lesson,” she said on a new episode of “Therapuss.”

If you didn’t know, in 2023, Lizzo was sued by a trio of former dancers and a stylist. The lawsuits accused the musician of sexual harassment and creating a hostile work environment. In a 2024 interview, Lizzo insisted she “did nothing wrong.”

She also recalled her the first time she received major backlash in 2019 when her hit “Good As Hell” was featured in a Weight Watchers commercial after Oprah Winfrey bought the company.

“It was like, ‘Oprah wants to use your song,’ I lost my mind. I was like, ‘Oh my god Oprah knows who I am!’ I was like, ‘Yes! Yes,’” she explained in the interview.

“I remember posting the commercial because I was so proud and everybody was like, ‘You’re f–king joking right, like this is promoting eating disorders. And I was like, ‘Oh my god.’ It broke my heart. It truly broke my heart,” she added.

If you didn’t see, last month, Lizzo opened up about her weight loss journey.
