Carlos Santana Apologizes for Saying Beyonce is 'Not a Singer'

Carlos Santana is in some hot water after saying Beyonce is “not a singer.”

In an interview, the 69-year-old performer explained why he thought Adele won the Album of the Year Grammy over Beyonce.

“I think that Adele won because she can sing sing,” he said. “With all respect to our sister Beyoncé, Beyoncé is very beautiful to look at and it’s more like modeling kind of music – music to model a dress – she’s not a singer singer, with all respect to her.”

After the huge backlash, he responded on Facebook, “I would like to clarify a comment that was reported when I was doing an interview for some upcoming shows in Australia & New Zealand. My intent was to congratulate Adele on her amazing night at the Grammies. My comment about Beyonce was regretfully taken out of context. I have the utmost respect for her as an artist and a person. She deserves all the accolades that come her way. I wish Beyonce and her family all the best.

Recording Academy President Responds to Grammy Diversity Questions: 'I Don't Think There's a Race Problem'

Artists including Solange Knowles and Frank Ocean have recently spoken out about the Grammys and race, and now, Recording Academy President Neil Portnow is answering questions in a new interview.

A black artist has not won Album of the Year since Herbie Hancock in 2008. At the ceremony on Sunday, Adele won the award for 25 over Beyonce‘s Lemonade.

“I don’t think there’s a race problem at all,” Neil told Pitchfork. “Remember, this is a peer-voted award. So when we say the Grammys, it’s not a corporate entity”it’s the 14,000 members of the Academy. They have to qualify in order to be members, which means they have to have recorded and released music, and so they are sort of the experts and the highest level of professionals in the industry. It’s always hard to create objectivity out of something that’s inherently subjective, which is what art and music is about,” Neil said.

Metallica's Lars Ulrich Talks Microphone Not Working At The Grammys: 'We Didn't Know'

Metallica‘s Lars Ulrich has broken his silence about his bandmate James Hetfield‘s microphone not working during their 2017 Grammy Awards performance with Lady Gaga!

“In the heat of that moment, it’s very difficult when you’re aware of the fact that something’s not functioning, [but] you don’t know where in the chain of possible mishaps [it could be]. You don’t know where that’s going on, so you really don’t have a choice other than to just keep battling on,” the 53-year-old co-founder and drummer said while speaking with Entertainment Weekly on Tuesday morning (February 14).

“It’s live television,” Lars added. “A couple of people where like, ‘Why didn’t you stop the song?’ We didn’t know there was a problem… you have no choice but to carry on. The ensuing chaos and energy and complete over-the-top excitement, it was absolutely awesome.”

“It was totally energetic and crazy,” Lars continued. “It was just energy and excitement and nuttiness, so her [Gaga] being right in my face just added to the whole exhilarating energy that was happening for those few minutes. I haven’t seen it yet, but I’ve gotten 700 texts from people just saying the chaos and tornado-like energy of it really translated well on TV.”
