Angela Bassett Addresses Ariana DeBose's Viral BAFTAs Rap, Says She Reached Out Following Backlash

Angela Bassett opened up about being told she “did the thing” by Ariana DeBose during a now-viral performance that opened the 2023 BAFTAs.

The 64-year-old Black Panther: Wakanda Forever actress said that she thought the moment was “beautiful” and that she had been in touch with the West Side Story star.

She opened up about it while attending the 54th NAACP Awards with her husband Courtney B. Vance at Pasadena Civic Auditorium on Saturday (February 25) in Pasadena, Calif.

Ariana DeBose is addressing her viral 2023 BAFTAs opening performance in a new interview.

If you didn’t see, the 32-year-old Oscar winner was supported by a crew of dancers while she rapped about some of the stars in the audience for the awards show. The clip quickly went viral and fans could not stop pointing out lines that included “Angela Bassett did the thing,” and “Viola Davis, my Woman King.”

While chatting with Zoe Ball on her BBC Radio 2 Breakfast Show, Ariana shared her first comments about the performance.
