The new movie Luckiest Girl Alive premieres on Netflix this weekend and we caught up with actor Alex Barone, who plays Dean Barton, to learn more about him.
Luckiest Girl Alive centers on Ani FaNelli (Mila Kunis), a sharp-tongued New Yorker who appears to have it all: a sought-after position at a glossy magazine, a killer wardrobe, and a dream Nantucket wedding on the horizon. But when the director of a crime documentary invites her to tell her side of the shocking incident that took place when she was a teenager at the prestigious Brentley School, Ani is forced to confront a dark truth that threatens to unravel her meticulously crafted life.
Alex was discovered after being selected for the ABC Discovers: Talent Showcase in 2019. He landed a role in the Hulu limited series Dopesick and now is starring in the new Netflix film.
Here are 10 Fun Facts about Alex:
- Growing up, I was a huge fan of That 70s Show, Black Swan and Family Guy, so working with Mila Kunis on Luckiest Girl Alive was very surreal! She’s the greatest and made me step up my game in a good way! She’s one of the most talented; wonderful and down to earth people I’ve ever had the pleasure of working with.
- I was born with a congenital condition called Fibular Hemimelia, which means I have three fingers on each hand like a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle or like Kurt Wagner (“Nightcrawler”) from X-Men. I’ve had forty-three major surgeries in my life.
- I’m a mentor at an amazing organization called Camp No Limits—a traveling camp for youth with limb differences. I get to travel around the country to all 10+ camps to be a part of it and have fun being a kid myself! It’s a full circle role for me as being limb different myself and growing up without an organization like this, I get to now be the kind of role model for these kids that I wish I had when I was growing up.
- I love Brazilian Jui Jitsu! It’s more than just a workout – it centers you, makes you focused and helps you understand the movement of your body. It has also helped me remain disciplined and very humble, because I’m still getting my butt kicked in every class! {Laughs}. Also, I enjoy it because since I had several surgeries growing up, a lot of sports like Football or Soccer that I really wanted to do more of, I just couldn’t at the time. Jui Jitsu is good for the mind, body and soul and I’d recommend it to everyone!
- I can do handstands for about two minutes!
